The other day, the song "Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth With Money in My Hand" came on Bob FM and just gave me a total freak out. I haven't heard that song in probably 10 years, and when it was out, I really liked it. Owned the CD at one time and everything. Usually when I like a song that much, it stays with me and I hear it on occasion, but for whatever reason, that one got lost.
So hearing it again just dropped me into this mad kaleidoscope of emotions and memories, I unexpectedly started to cry just driving down the street. Not because the memories and emotions were so sad, it was just total overwhelm. Very weird.
So to that end, I thought up the ten most influential albums in my life, CDs that actually changed my life, or shaped who I am in a direct and tangible way.
In order of importance
1. Golden Palominos- Dead Inside
2. nin- Broken
3. The Cult- Love
4. The Church - Remote Luxury
5. Nirvana - Bleach
6. Pink Floyd - The Wall
7. Leonard Cohen - The Future
8. X - Los Angeles
9. Galaxie 500- On Fire
10. Mark Lanegan - The Winding Sheet
Mr B is in better spirits today. He slept from eight forty-five until 0630, even though he coughed some in the night, it didn't wake him up. That seemed to improve his mood a great deal, even though he is still congested and has that nasty cough.
We had a leisurely cuddly morning, I read him stories and snuggled him on the sofa while we watched Sunny Side Up, and just basically spent quality cuddle time together until Cash was antsy and wanted to go out and about.
Since we had to miss Toddler Skate, I figured I'd spent the money we would have spent there to go out to breakfast together.
Easier said than done! We tried Big Mama's which I have long wanted to visit, but once we got there we found that a) they don't have highchairs and b) breakfast stopped at 1030. So we reversed course, and I was thinking we'd just forget the whole eating idea, but when we left the restaurant, Cash started to cry! I guess he is starting to like going out to eat.
So I promised him we'd go somewhere else nearby, and visit Cassandra's, a mom & pop diner downtown I have also been wanting to try for awhile.
Again, we had missed breakfast and once we were seated I learned that the only lunch option was a buffet. I wasn't 100% jazzed about the idea, but I was also not about to carry Mr B out of a another restaurant. I hoped at least the food would be good.
The buffet was near enough to our table that I was able to go fill my plate while keeping Cash directly in sight & he was surprising calm about being left at the table, he just watched to see what I was up to.
I'm glad the buffet was only $6.99, because it pretty much sucked. They had a beef stroganoff that I didn't care for, but Cash ate two small bowls of it, so I guess something good came of it. The fried chicken was wet with grease, the baked chicken was good, but when I went back for a second piece it was pink inside :/ The veggies were bland, the pecan pie had clearly come out of box. The only good thing were these deep fried, slightly sweet jalapeno bread rolls. Horribly unhealthy, but very tasty. I had two.
Cash enjoyed himself and in the end that was all I was hoping for. He didn't want to leave! I would have liked to walk around the downtown shops with him today, but there was a wicked cold wind making it feel about 40 degrees out, so...no.
Instead we went to Goodwill in Lynn Haven got some new socks for Cash (why socks in his size are so hard to find, I do not know) and an awesome super fine gauge sweater for me that is big enough I plan to use it as a cozy nightie.
Mr B was getting tired after running around Goodwill and playing peekaboo with me in the pajama pants section. He had a meltdown because I wouldn't let him pull all the iPod holders off the rack and when I carried him out of the store, he was fired up.
It didn't take long for him to fall asleep once we were on our way home though, and he had a good long nap.
I made
angelpez's pot roast recipe for dinner. She said it was the best roast ever & OMG was she right! It's amazing! You just put a roast in the Crock Pot with a packet of Ranch dressing mix, a packet of Italian mix & a packet of Brown Gravy mix, plus half a cup of water. You will not believe the level of deliciousness that comes from something this simple & easy! I couldn't wait for Sean to taste it at dinner. He was not disappointed!
Cash still does not like beef. Or pork. He will eat chicken and turkey and fish, weenies & and a little ground beef on occasion, but steak or pork chop or roast, etc? No thank you. So I gave him tofu and rice for his dinner.
I don't like Chips Ahoy cookies, but Sean does. They were buy one get one free, so I bought him a pack of regular and a pack of chocolate & peanut butter chip ones, thinking two packs of the same might be too much. Well I needn't have worried, the chocolate & peanut butter ones are so freaking awesome, I don't think Sean is going to get many of them.
That said, I have not gained any weight this week. I haven't lost either, but I seem to have at least reached a new plateau that is 5 lbs lower than my last one. Now I just have to maintain through our trip & not use being on the road as an excuse to overindulge.
My neck started flaring up again today, I can hear the crunch where the two vertebrae rub together. Thankfully, I will see my GP tomorrow and get a prescription for the Lyrica to try. I hope it helps because the car trips with Cash are always hard on my neck, with all the turning around to entertain him.
We finally finally got to see WALL*E tonight. Well at least half of it. We have been waiting for so long & it was worth it. Great so far!
Cash was sleepy around 2030, so we had his bath and storytime and snuggle time and bedtime...except he wouldn't go to sleep. After an hour and a half I got frustrated and just let him get up. He's in the living room with Sean right now.
Since we missed toddler skate today, here's pictures from a previous toddler skate
Chilling at the doctor's office before going to play

But...I don't want to go home!
And a super short friday night video of Mr B and my flip flops
