life's better now than it was back then
Happy birthday [info]water_melanie! Such a lot of bad celebrity news on your birthday, but I hope you had a happy one anyhow!

Is it just me, or has 2009 been absolutely brutal in terms of death? And personal finances of course. Just in general, so many bad things have happened to so many people, both famous and regular, ever since the calendar turned.

I have felt sorry for Michael Jackson for a long time, he was really just never allowed to be a child and was a seriously messed up person. Fame did him no favors, I think. It's sad for his family that he died, but I can't help but wonder if maybe his children won't be better off? I know that sounds horrible to say about anyone losing a father, but their life just seemed so bizarre with the masks and everything, I wonder if maybe they can have a little normality now. Though, depending on who gets custody of them, that may not be possible.

So, in lighter news, [info]rustyangel's comment made me realize that I don't think I shared this already. Whenever Sean takes a shower, Cash lurks around the bedroom and waits for the water to go off. When it does, he runs like a chubby little madman to the nightstand and picks out a pair of underwear, then carries them to the bathroom and gives them to daddy. He is partial to the red boxer briefs and the American Eagle ones with birdies on.

He woke up sometime in the night & took his sippy cup into bed with him, but then rolled over on the spout (it's a soft Nüby kind) which made it leak everywhere. So he woke up in a big wet patch around 0400 and it took me until ) 530 to get him back to sleep. Oy, was I tired.

Sean had to get up shortly thereafter, so I kept waking up while he was getting ready and then kept waking up thinking it was too late for Cash to still be asleep. Eventually he got me up at 0830 and we had a bit of a rushed morning, because we had a trial Kindermusik class at 1000.

I am glad we were able to go try it out at a low one time cost, because it definitely was not Cash's cup of tea. Even though I kept telling him we were going to a music class, and he'd dance when I said "music", once the class started, he was antsy and whiny and kept wanting to go back out in the hall, first he said he had to poop, then he said he was hungry, I think he was just making excuses to leave! I got him to participate a little bit here and there but overall, I don't think he got much out of it. It was a lot like storytime at the library (which is free!) and he had the same amount of interest. Which is to say, not much.

I decided to take him out to lunch after, since he'd kept saying he was hungry and it was still early in the day. We went to the Lunchbox and he was crushed to find out there was no corn chowder. He liked his child's plate though, he ate a great deal of ranch with a toothpick before deciding to actually try dipping things in it. He liked the chicken chunks in it, ate the cucumber and pickle without it after giving it a try, did not like the grapes in it, and thought the shredded cheese dipped in it was kind of tasty. Then he put some of the lettuce from my salad in it, which got a yes, and some of my quiche in it, which he decided he liked better sans ranch and ate quite a good bit of (it was chicken asparagus quiche. The kid likes asparagus for sure!). Flatly refused to eat any of the strawberries from my salad. He won't even try strawberries, I don't know what he has against them!

Anyhow, it was a nice lunch, I read The Pigeon Wants a Puppy to him while we waited for our food, he just loves that story. I decided to take him across the street to the library to see if we could get some more Mo Willems books, but with it being summer and all, the shelves were bare.

I did get him a dvd called The Busy Little Engine, since he's Mr I Love Trains lately, and Caroline B Cooney's Code Orange for me, which I am almost done with already. It's a pretty good read.

I need to get that Lots & Lots of Trains dvd again, Cash wasn't so interested in it when I checked it out a while back but now? He would about flip his lid. Maybe Netflix has it, or I can get it used for cheap on Amazon.

He kissed the dolphins repeatedly, played Barney games on the computers, stacked up checkers and played with the chessmen, then crawled onto a bottom shelf and waved me away so he could poop in peace. He is so funny.

Got him changed and we headed home, via Sonic of course. I recently tried a vanilla lime diet coke & it's my new favorite thing.

Sean was here and asleep when I got back, he'd gotten done early and has a big PT test tomorrow, so he needed the rest. Him and Cash both slept until 5ish. Sean made them both pasta for dinner (with a steak for himself) while I went to water aerobics.

I love my water aerobics class! Even though everyone in there is old enough to be my parent, or even grandparent. It is just a fun class & I can really feel the difference it's making, even if it's not so much visible yet.

Sean had school work to do tonight, so once I was home, I just amused Mr B and watched his new train movie with him to give Sean some peace and quiet to work in.

Then we did bath & bedtime with him, and Sean went to bed long before Cash fell asleep. I stayed with Cash and snuggled and chatted with him after we'd read about 4 stories. I knew it would take him a while to fall asleep since he'd napped for over 3 hours. I was right, it was nearly 11! Hopefully he'll sleep well tonight though, tomorrow we swim!

Mamma's playdates are sooo boring (we were having our Mary Kay party)

Guess I'll just have to make myself into a superhero to amuse myself

Maybe I'll read one of mamma's books

I don't think much of this Mary Higgins Clark lady

No pictures!

You don't have problems with your cats scratching (or biting) your leather couches? We're looking to get new couches, and hubby wants leather, but my cats chew my leather purse handles (and the arm of the computer chair downstairs) so I'm afraid to make a really expensive mistake.

Wow, no! I've never had a leather eating cat, so it's never been a problem. They scratch up the arms sometimes climbing up on it, but it'd be worse with fabric!

I thought precisely the same thing about MJ's kids.

I wonder if they will go to Debbie Rowe or God forbid to his dad or LaToya or what.

Re: Fetching daddy's undies: squeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! :-D

Re: MJ: You know, although I like MJ's music, I never considered myself a true fan and while his death was incredibly shocking and I was glued to the TV all night, I didn't really get very upset about it...until they showed footage of the Jackson 5 and I got so choked up. It breaks my heart to see what a talented little boy he was and to see what a tragic end he met.

It's funny, listening to the coverage on NPR today, I remembered when he first got super famous when I was in 6th grade after Thriller came out and my mother (who had been a Jackson 5 fan and always thought he was such a cute little boy) saw him with his then ubiquitous sunglasses off on some teevee program. She gasped in horror and said "I know this sounds crazy, but looking in his eyes made me think he sold his soul to the devil. No wonder he wars those glasses all the time. He may be famous as famous can be, but he's going to be miserably unhappy and die young."

As usual, mom was right.

I agree with you re: MJ. I too have always felt sorry for him, but do think his kids might stand a chance at "normal" without him. Of course it does depend on who gets custody, so maybe it will be worse. It's sad. Such a messed up family.

Gel didn't really enjoy the kindermusik classes either. And we paid for a full session and only went to two or three classes! A huge waste of money, but after the 2nd or 3rd time I just couldn't force it on her anymore.

I know, if they end up with LaToya or something, God help them. Those poor babies, what a difficult life to be born into. I sure hope they grow up okay.

I was really grateful that I had this opportunity to go for only $10, it would have been a disaster if I'd bought a whole course of it. Part of Cash's problem is he just does not like kiddie songs. I have tried, but he's just got no interest unless it's accompanied by a video about trains (he loves his Thomas singalong), or it's grown up music. I guess I shouldn't complain, my friend Shannon's son won't listen to any adult music at all, in the car or anywhere, she has to play kid's stuff all the time unless he's asleep!

Thank you for the birthday wishes! I haven't been checking in as often and just saw it. Definately sad about MJ's death, but I managed to have a nice happy birthday anyhow.

Water aerobics are one of my favorite forms of exercise! I need to sign up for a class.

Glad it was good! Yeah, I really enjoy my water aerobics class too, especially because the ladies are all so nice (even though they are all old enough to be my mother or grandmother!)

i love the library. the programs here are all free too and you don't even need a library card to participate in them. i took chloe to sing along there and will do sing and sign in the future as well.
